Though he chafes under her yoke, William has spent more than half his life at home, devoted to helping his mother run their small wine and spirits shop in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, England. His estranged father offers a means of escape and an entree into the world of commerce where, within three short years William finds himself sacked, sued and forced into bankruptcy.
