Deciding to immigrate to Canada, the young widow Veronica Wild with her three small boys take a harrowing Atlantic steamship crossing on the Hamburg-Amerika Line en-route to Montreal on her discovery of the Canadian West. On the Isle of Eigg, Scotland the MacDonald clan decide to emigrate Scotland to the Maritime Provinces and the coastal village of Arisaig, Nova Scotia. After graduating from a prestigious local college, Mary Ann MacDonald opts to move west and experience the pioneering times of the Canadian Prairies Provinces. It is here, in a rural Saskatchewan village, that new life starts and the family roots blossom.
