He has received numerous awards, including the Shenzhen Youth Literature Award and the New Work Award of Guangdong Province. He graduated from East China Normal University in Shanghai, China with a degree in economics, before spending time in New Zealand studying in English School of Waikato Institute of Technology. He migrated to New Zealand in 2008.
