Publisher's Synopsis
Who We Are is a compilation of writings from the Creative Writing Workshop of the San Francisco Jewish Community Center. We have been ongoing for about 25 years in one form or another. These stories and poems come from many people who, while quite diverse, share love of the written word. The group behind this edition began about five years ago. We meet at the S.F.J.C.C. twice a month on Fridays from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. It's an informal group which takes time to socialize. We have an in-class writing session with topics suggested by me or someone else, which we later read in class. Then students read what they wrote at home and receive some gentle criticism. Generally, we have two public readings and parties each year. During the past year, members of our workshop have shown such a dramatic improvement in their writing, that when it was suggested we publish a collection of our work, I thought it was a wonderful idea. This is the fifth such collection to showcase the workshop's writing and probably the most promising.
