The follow-up to Sarah Thornton's Lapse sees disgraced former lawyer Clementine Jones once again trying to outrun her past, this time on the on the shores of paradise-Queensland's Great Sandy Straits. Bored with a house-sitting gig, Clementine becomes a reluctant recruit to the local environmental group, campaigning to save an endangered turtle as developers close in. When a body of an environmental activist is found at the base of a nearby quarry, Clem's world is turned upside down. The police say suicide, but Clem's convinced it was murder. She also knows she's the only one interested in tracking down the killer. With conflicts between big business and the activists growing, and there are plenty of people with a motive. Clem steps in to try and solve this murder-but her own dark secret continues to put her in danger. Complicating matters further is Clem's mate Torrens, ex-con and reformed enforcer. He's looking to get to the bottom of the murder, too, but for his own reasons…
