Publisher's Synopsis

During World War Two, the British and Commonwealth countries established the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and Joint Air Training Scheme. The idea was that new pilots could be trained away from the dangers of aerial attack in Britain by training in places like Canada, Rhodesia and South Africa. Flight Sergeant John Noble was to become a part of this, training new recruits in using twin engined aircraft, mostly for Air Observers. Throughout the course of the war, over 33,000 aircrew would be trained in South Africa. This is the story of John Noble's war, through his own training to the sun-swept landscape of South Africa.
