Publisher's Synopsis
In 1942, disillusioned French poet Étienne Moreau escapes Nazi-occupied Paris, seeking refuge in British India. What he finds instead is another kind of war-the Bengal Famine of 1943. In Bombay, he befriends journalist Ravi and doctor Amrita Patel, who expose him to the brutal reality of colonial rule.
As he travels through famine-stricken Bengal, Étienne abandons his romantic ideals, using poetry to document suffering and defy censorship.
