Narrated by Matt Cramer, grandson of Hugh Cramer and father of Sam, the story follows the sorrows, joys, triumphs and tragedies of the Cramer clan and carries the reader from Matt's early days growing up before World War 2. Then enlisting in the army he fought in the jungles of New Guinea. After the war Matt joins the family import/export business. Business opportunities take him to Japan and the Pacific Northwest of the United States. The story ends with Sam Cramer's marriage in the early 1970s.
