In the year 1715, the French King Louis XIV, known as the Sun King, dies. After the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes which had granted toleration to the protestants, the persecution of protestant Christians also in the newly acquired territory of Alsace, took on threatening forms. Many see flight into the old war ravaged Empire as the only way out. As members of the persecuted Mennonites, young Jos Stelter and his family begin an ardous journey full of danger. They embark on this fateful journey in search of a new home and a toleration, if not acceptance of their way of life. Constant challenges accompany their trip which ultimately leads them to the duchy of Palatinate-Zweibrücken. There Jos gets a unique opportunity to guide the fate of his family and co-religionists. The immense responsibility weighs on his shoulders. Can he carry this load? Or will his decisions and actions bring serious consequences to himself, his family and his follow believers.
