John M. Thompson joined the Parachute Regiment Territorial Army at 17 to help him get through an unwanted apprenticeship in the shipyards. At 20 he joined the regular army in the Royal Engineers, and then onto the 9th Independent Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers. In this book he tells of the nearly 10 years he spent in the Squadron.
