Publisher's Synopsis

I have benefited much from reading C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters. Lewis' warnings on the dangers inherent in living the Christian life - sounded through the mouth of the devil Screwtape - were prophetic to his generation, and just as relevant today.C.S. Lewis' imaginative framing for his Screwtape Letters is as entertaining as it is profound. It takes as its inspiration the inverse concept of a "guardian angel". If every saint had a guardian angel assigned by God to protect them, might not they also have a diabolical tempter assigned by the devil to lead them astray? In a sense, Satan's schemes never change: the devil is always and forever out to "steal, kill and destroy" (John 10:10). On the other hand, the devil's snares do indeed change: in the sense that they are tailored to the present generation. In other words, as the worldview or mindset of the present generation differs from those that have gone before; Satan's deceits are adjusted accordingly - to ensnare all the more surely. Satanic schemes - as described in the body of this work - are diabolically clever - but not altogether surprising. I am quite convinced from reading the emails in this collection that more will follow.
