Publisher's Synopsis
Montgomery County, Kentucky was formed in 1796, four years after Kentucky became a state. A valuable source of information about the early county and its founding are found in interviews conducted by John Dabney Shane. Shane sought out and interviewed the aging pioneers of Central Kentucky during the 1840s and 1850s. Those pioneers recounted their dangerous journey to Kentucky, America's first western frontier, and their daily struggle for survival against the wilderness, environment, and the Native Americans that had called Kentucky their home for thousands of years.
