Publisher's Synopsis
Aribaal, continuing his quest to find the god who has led him from the fire of sacrifice in Byblos, enters the great ocean beyond the pillars of rock at the end of the great inner sea. Travel across the ocean with nothing, not even the stars to guide him lands him and his friends in a strange new world of jungle, exotic animals and equally unusual people. Now added to his companions is his surviving wife, Helen, who found a way to join him on this dangerous trek. Aribaal and Helen are greeted by worshipping natives who have long awaited their promised god in human form. Aribaal quickly learns that even a god suffers much with little reward. With the Baal priest Theon accompanying their entourage, Aribaal and friends learn that the god figure lives as a prisoner and in constant danger. Theon introduces human sacrifices into the new land and the friends must find a way out of the entrapping land while constantly defending against witchcraft and betrayal.
