Publisher's Synopsis
Many problems arise from the wastes and effluents of agro-industries, and there is considerable interest in the solutions proposed or in use to tackle them. The 2nd International Symposium drew a large number of delegates to Istanbul to discuss acceptable approaches for waste management in agro-industries. The 28 papers selected here describe a variety of (mostly) biological reactor systems for wastewater treatment, and applications are detailed for a number of major industries, including pulp and paper, leather, distilling, olive oil milling, dairies and piggeries. They will obviously be of great interest to those involved in the design and operation of specific processes but the strategies employed may have far wider application, and the whole proceedings will be of value to those concerned with the overall management of agro-industrial wastes.
