Publisher's Synopsis

Waipi'o Valley: A Polynesian Journey from Eden to Eden, Volume 2, begins with the Hawaiian theory of evolution. The Hawaiian prayer chant, the Kumulipo, describes the origins of the universe and the birth of the gods in Po, a heavenly realm of divine darkness, the primeval night of the spirit world where the spirit of the Supreme Creator God 'Io is a light in the vast boundless time of total deep divine darkness. The evolution of life on earth begins when lower forms of life are created belonging to the nonhuman world. During the age of light, the material age of Ao, organisms are transformed through natural reproduction from lower life forms into higher levels of complexity with occasional help from the spiritual realm of divine intervention leading to the birth mankind. Ao is now peopled by beings with consciousness, a world of mankind created by the gods. The story of evolution found in the Kumulipo does not end with biological evolution and the ascent of man, but with the spiritual evolution of the divine chiefs, the akua ali'i. Now, the Supreme Creator God has reproduced himself, spiritual evolution has advanced mankind into a higher state beyond the physical and into the realm of the divine.
