Vulnerable mission is about giving up rather than using power in cross-cultural Christian ministry. In that, vulnerable mission seeks to follow Jesus' ministry style.
Central-although often ignored-sources of power today are "global" languages and foreign funds. What would happen if more people embraced vulnerable mission by choosing to use only vernacular languages and local resources in key areas of their ministry? Kingdom growth would likely happen at a slower pace. Arguably, though, it would have greater depth, be more sustainable, and engage societal and theological issues in locally meaningful ways. This book is an introduction to vulnerable mission that is both comprehensive and compact. The short chapters, written in accessible language, present clearly how vulnerable mission differs from other approaches to mission. They explain why (more of) vulnerable mission is important. The book closes with some simple and concrete steps towards more vulnerable weakness in cross-cultural ministry.ABOUT THE PUBLISHERThe Alliance for Vulnerable Mission (AVM) helps Western Christians to grow in awareness for and understanding of indigenous perspectives. It emphasises the importance of relating to people through their home languages and local resources.
