Publisher's Synopsis

This book adopts a new approach to the topic of industrial relations. The industrial relations literature for developing countries is severely under-developed as a consequence of the rigid hold of quantitative industrial relations paradigms over the discipline. The volume opens the gate to industrial relations voices from the developing world by establishing the prestige and current contribution of ethnographic methods within this policy and academic domain. The analysis presented provides a longitudinal investigation of the industrial climate in a manufacturing firm from the 1980s. By design, this is a view from the shop floor, offering an interpretation of groups of workers, presenting the voices of those most likely to be affected by change. Such analysis is then complemented by drawing on a number of key industrial relations studies in developing world contexts.
