Publisher's Synopsis
This is a full-length study of fiction by young writers from the North African immigrant community in France. More than a dozen members of the so-called Beur generation, a popular name for the sons and daughters of the first-generation immigrants, have so far published narrative works. They include Mehdi Charef, Azouz Begag and Farida Belghoul. In his study, Alec Hargreaves combines careful analysis of the formal structures of Beur fiction with insights derived from interviews with the authors and extensive access to unpublished writings.
