Publisher's Synopsis

The claimed vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary by a man named John Stewart comes to the attention of news media and results in reporter Kevin Brady being assigned to investigate this. Not only does Brady probe Stewart about what he witnessed, but Stewart is himself questioning what he saw. His parish priest is skeptical, but many in his church believe there has been divine intervention. Sharp criticism comes from the local Archbishop and an outspoken TV evangelist. A seductive woman targets her attention on both Stewart and Brady. Then, a second vision occurs, and throngs of people and the news media descend on the church to see a statue of Mary that has supposedly opened its eyes and spoken in an ancient language. A miracle occurs at the church, when a woman prays to the statue and is cured of cancer. A detractor, Brother Joseph of Guardians of the Cross, comes on the scene with a more sinister motive. Stewart is shot by a deranged man. His life is saved, and he and his wife decide to flee for safety. They are assisted by Brady, who has a religious experience of his own. Stewart and Brady are followed by Brother Joseph and the woman who tempted both men. In a final encounter, Stewart's life is again threatened and hangs in the balance.
