Vinnie Hooligan, a sixteen-year-old sophomore in high school, is unaware of the Banshee Curse that exiled all Hooligans from Ireland and condemned them to roam the world as reprobates and recidivists.
Vinnie's father, a successful scientist, does not believe in fairies or curses, and Vinnie's grandad, an Irish storyteller, has been trying to get the story told since Vinnie's father was a young man.
And then one night, Cliodhna, the queen of the Banshee, pays Vinnie a visit demanding her crystal back. Vinnie has no idea what the crystal is or what part it has played in his family history. But he soon discovers that he is the one who the Hooligans have been waiting for, the one for whom the crystal will glow, and the one who could break the curse. He sets out on a journey with his four gifted friends and Granddad. The curse, the fairies, his granddad's stories, the visit from Cliodhna has Vinnie's head spinning, and the Hooligans worldwide depending on his success.
