Captain Roger Blanc's life has changed overnight. Up until recently, he was a stellar anti-corruption officer in Paris, but now he has been transferred to the small town of Gadet in Provence. To make matters worse, his wife has left him. He is eventually given a murder case, which he feels pressured to solve quickly to stop any more from happening.
