Vet

This series introduces the reader to people who help the community through the jobs that they perform. Each book focuses on an individual member of the featured public or emergency service; the experiences of their working day are used to illustrate the importance of their role in the community. Wherever possible, care has been taken to make these experiences relevant to those of the reader. This book is about a vet and the animals she looks after.;In this book we meet Ann, who is a vet. She works for the people's dispensary for sick animals, at the animal treatment centre in Croydon. Every day, people bring their sick or injured pets to the clinic at the centre. The vets examine the animals and prescribe the right treatment for them. The centre has its own dispensary, where medicines are prepared, and animals can have x-rays and operations there too. The reader finds out what Ann does when she examines some of the animals and how she performs a simple operation on a dog with a cut ear. There is a dual-level text to help younger and less-able readers.
