Publisher's Synopsis

Among the works discovered by German theatre directors shortly before and after the Wende, texts by Russian authors victimized by the Soviet system in the 1920s and 1930s are of major importance. These plays were not in tune with the dogma of socialist realism and were hence prohibited. But they found their way into western European countries and developed a new actuality in the Wende period, notably for the German theatre. The present volume is devoted to the analysis of productions of works by Marina Zvetayeva (1892-1941), Mikhail Bulgakov (1891-1940), Alexander Vedensky (1904-1941) and Daniil Charms (1905--1942).
