Publisher's Synopsis
William Wiles is singled out by a serial killer - not to be killed but to decide upon the next victim. Notes are left for Billy forcing him to choose: don't take this note to the police, I will kill a lovely blonde schoolteacher; take this note to the police, I will kill an elderly woman active in charity work. Given six hours to decide, Billy pays an informal visit to Lanny Olson, a policeman, who thinks the note is a prank. The schoolteacher dies. With more communications from the killer, more hideous choices and ever-tighter deadlines, Billy is drawn deeper into an accelerating nightmare, which steadily becomes more personal, and more confrontational.
