Publisher's Synopsis

Double bill of two films linked in name and only very loosely by theme ('Beyond...' is not a sequel to 'Valley...').. 'Valley of the Dolls' is a classic melodrama exposing the less glamorous side of Hollywood life in the 1960s. Three ambitious young women (played by Barbara Parkins, Patty Duke and Sharon Tate) strive for showbiz success, but get caught up in the seedy underside of the celebrity lifestyle: connivances and contrivances, ego and exploitation, alcohol and pills (the 'dolls' of the title). In its time the film was considered shocking, and it remains a pertinent critique of the pitfalls of fame and fortune. 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls', directed by cult maestro Russ Meyer, boasts several trademark buxom young women and a script by film critic Roger Ebert. The story revolves around Kelly, Casey and Pet, three girls who go to Hollywood to start a rock band. Camp, sexually explicit and violent, the film is a parody of soap opera-style films.
