Gum recession is a process in which the edge of the gum tissue that surrounds the teeth disappears and recedes, and more of the tooth or tooth root is exposed. This pit becomes a place for the accumulation of food particles and bacteria. If this condition is not treated, the soft tissues and bone supporting the tooth will be severely damaged and eventually you may lose your tooth. Gum recession is a common dental problem. Most people do not notice their receding gums because it happens gradually. The first sign of gingivitis is tooth sensitivity to cold or hot foods or drinks.
