Publisher's Synopsis
This volume contains text editions of 48 legal documents from the Neo-Babylonian period (6th and 5th centuries BC) written on clay tablets pertaining to marriage and inheritance law. The edition comprises copies of the cuneiform texts with transliteration, translation in German and philological as well as legal commentary. Six marrigage documents and the so far only document concerning a divorce case are included, as well as property transfers, wills and documents resulting from litigation over inheritance and property rights. The archival context is discussed where appropriate.
