This book presents the urban area as an
anthropological-metaphorical space, structural
at the same time, without losing its literary
or historical aspect. Dante's Divine Comedy is
used as a test field for setting out three possible
paradigms of urban scenography: the polis or
Paradiso, the labyrinth or Purgatorio, the tower
or Inferno. In this volume, three geometries
outline the scenographic cosmos of our cities:
one horizontal for rest (eternal polis), one stress
diagonal (purgatory wall) and one failure vertical
(infernal Babel). A dantesque urban imaginary:
the accelerated fragmentation of the metropolis.
