"Understanding Teaching" is based on a longitudinal study of one teacher who, by reflecting on her pedagogy and trying to alter it, comes to recognize the forces of continuity and tradition, and succeeds in changing both her beliefs and her teaching. Dr Louden seeks to understand how teachers think, feel, and teach. The search has two ultimate goals: mitigating misunderstanding between teachers and administrators, and revitalizing improvement progammes to make them more effective.
