Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Uncollected Works of Abraham Lincoln, Vol. 1: His Letters, Addresses and Other Papers, 1824 to 1840

Seconded by friendly officials of the several courts of the old Eighth Circuit diligent effort has been made to recover, when ever possible, a full and accurate history of the cases in which Mr. Lincoln had a part. The editor must also record his very real obligation to many learned members of the Lincoln fellow ship who, in the process of labors that began when the century was young, have generously aided him with pertinent facts and timely suggestions. These include Oliver R. Barrett of Chicago and Dr. F. Lauriston Bullard of Melrose Highlands, Massa chusetts, both enminent for a knowledge of every phase of Mr. Lincoln's career as all-embracing as it is exact, and Dr. Louis A. Warren of the Lincoln National Life Foundation, Fort Wayne, Indiana, whose revealing researches into the ancestry, parentage and childhood of Mr. Lincoln have made present and future students his debtors.
