15-year-old Annabel Henshaw becomes deeply distressed when her parents join an extreme religious cult. They begin to press their newfound beliefs onto her and to curtail her freedom. In despair she runs away to a distant city where she is caught in the downward spiral of homelessness. She contemplates suicide and calls the Samaritans where she meets Mary who shows her sympathy and kindnes. Her younger sister is in danger as a result of the activities of the cult leaders and, in an exciting ending, Annabel convinces her parents of this and the family is reunited.
