Publisher's Synopsis

Ultravox were a British new wave band, formed in London England, UK as Tiger Lily, during April 1974. They had 7 UK Top 10 albums and 17 Top 40 singles from 1980 - 1986, their biggest hit being Vienna in 1980. John Foxx was frontman, lead vocalist and the main driving force behind Ultravox from 1974 to 1979, before leaving the group during March that year to start a solo career. Midge Ure took over as lead singer, guitarist and frontman in October 1979, he and keyboardist Billy Currie having worked in the studio project Visage. Ure revitalised the band, which had chart success until 1988, when they broke up. A new line-up, led by Billy, was formed during 1992, which didn't have much success, 2 LPs failing to chart, with a solitary single stalling at UK # 90. The group's best-known line-up of Currie, Ure, bassist Chris Cross and drummer Warren Cann reformed in 2008 then performed a series of reunion shows during 2009 - 2010 before issuing a new studio album, Brill!ant, in May 2012, which made UK # 21. Ultravox performed as special guests on a 4 date UK arena tour with Simple Minds during November 2013, which were the band's last, as both Billy and Midge stated in 2017 that Ultravox had run its course.
