Publisher's Synopsis
A novella following New York cat burglar Nathaniel Trillion on the run for a crime he did commit, but in retrospect shouldn't have. Having spent the last six months hiding in a no-name backwater town in Middle America he discovers that his partner Gene has run up considerable gambling debt to a criminal gang calling themselves the Circus. To clear the debt Trillion reluctantly agrees to use his skills for one job for the Circus: steal a mysterious case that is being held by the Police Force. His fear isn't of the psychopaths in the Circus but of word getting back to Manhattan about the local cat burglar who just turned up, and when Gene's run of bad luck spills into their work their problems are only getting worse.
