Publisher's Synopsis

A trio of features detailing awe-inspiring missions. 'Apollo 13' director Ron Howard presents the documentary 'In the Shadow of the Moon' (2007), which brings together the surviving crew members from every single Apollo mission to the Moon, and allows them to tell their story in their own words. These first-hand testimonies are interwoven with remastered archive material from the original NASA film footage. Kevin MacDonald's docu-drama 'Touching the Void' (2003) details the 1985 attempt by two ambitious young British mountaineers, Joe Simpson and Simon Yates, to scale the treacherous west face of the Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes. They reached the summit on day three, but shortly after starting the descent Simpson fell and broke his leg badly. This accident turned their daring expedition into a desperate fight for survival, when Yates had to decide whether to stay with Simpson and wait to be rescued (and possibly die) or leave him behind to save his own life. Based on the journals of Cuban revolutionary Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, the coming-of-age road movie 'The Motorcycle Diaries' (2004) by Brazilian director Walter Salles follows the adventures of the young medical student Che (Gael García Bernal) and his friend Alberto Granada (Rodrigo de la Serna) as they cross South America on motorbikes in the early 1950s, on their way to take up their medical residency at a leper colony in Peru. Along the way, the men discover much about life and about their own views on the world - and begin to realise just how different their individual destinies have become.
