With art direction by the renowned designer Peter Saville, this book is published alongside the exhibition, True Faith at Manchester Art Gallery (30 June - 3 September 2017). It explores the ongoing significance and legacy of bands Joy Division and New Order, through the wealth of visual art their music has inspired.Curated by Matthew Higgs and Jon Savage with archivist Johan Kugelberg, True Faith is centred on four decades' worth of extraordinary contemporary works from artists such as Julian Schnabel, Jeremy Deller, Martin Boyce, Liam Gillick, Mark Leckey and Slater Bradley, all directly inspired by both bands.Also featuring Peter Saville's seminal (Factory Records) album/single cover designs, plus performance films, music videos and posters from John Baldessari, Barbara Kruger, Lawrence Weiner, Jonathan Demme, Robert Longo and filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow amongst others, True Faith provides a unique perspective on these two most iconic and influential Manchester bands.Commissioned and produced by Manchester International Festival and Manchester Art Gallery.
