It's been something of a rollercoaster ride for the cops, for the court, for the media [in terms of fighting for the right to broad‐cast and for me. But now I'm here; now we're all here, and the most critical moment of this trial has finally dawned: Henri's testimony. As I'm scribbling notes and tweeting, what I don't anticipate is Henri himself. Compared to his enigmatic, introverted personality, Henri's well-spoken and nobody's fool, but the clear baritone isn't really the thing that's jarring. The thing is, he's too well spoken. And why is Henri, with an Afrikaans girlfriend, who lives in an Afrikaans area, who comes from an Afrikaans family, whose family have participated in the first book published in print on the case [in Afrikaans], why is he testifying in English?
