Publisher's Synopsis
This is a Tribute to my Cousin Poet Charles Sprague with selected Poetry and Prose writings from an origional 1849 Book of poems and prose writings from this Charles Sprague 1849 edition purchased from Goodspeed's Used Book Store in the 1970's when I was employed in the financial district of Boston for a number of years. A book written by Poet Charles Sprague was a Brown University Discard. It was the only copy I have ever seen in my travels. I traced his genealogical tree and compared to my own and we are directly related. Our common Ancestor is William Sprague. He was Charles's 5th g-grandfather and my 8th g-grandfather. I even have been to the community of Upwey, Dorsetshire, England along with my sister Jean as we walked the steps of ancestor Edward Sprague and his wife Christiana where they brought up William, Ralph, Richard and the rest of his siblings. We even visited St. Lawrence Church and discovered a framed certificate of the three Sprague brothers who went to America in 1629, founded the city of Charlestown now a part of Boston.tt was located in a rear church foyer and photographed it. Also, in Upwey, we visited the Wishing Well (At one time was known as the Sprague Wishing Well) I even had a sip of the water there, tasted alright to me.
