Transforming Transportation: The Electric Car Revolution describes a proposal for a new nationwide all-electric mass transit system called NTS (National Transit Service). NTS uses private electric cars and trucks to provide door-to-door service across town or across the country. NTS will provide a low-cost travel service for freight, business, and personal travel. NTS is designed to provide the same convenient, anytime, travel advantage that owning a car has. It could eventually replace the interstate highway system.
NTS is to be funded by a combination of public and private sources with small investors providing 85% and the government 5%, with the rest coming from a franchising organization.
