Publisher's Synopsis
The book tells the story of the period between 1978 and 2000. The story is told in pictures from the authors personal point of view. It starts with the railway coming under the jurisdiction of the Manx Electric Railway Board who were the forerunners of IOM National Transport up to the present time when National Transport is part of the Department of Tourism and Leisure. The parlous state of the railway it inherited to what it is today spans a quarter of a century and its progress is covered by illustrations of significant events from track and civil engineering structure renewals to the repair of rolling stock and locomotives which had suffered from years of neglect. Many of the illustrations of the locomotive restoration work have never been published before and give a unique insight into the extent of the work undertaken. It concludes with a look at some of the unusual special events staged in connection with significant tramway anniversaries with which the steam railway was originally involved.
