Traffic Assignment Techniques

This work is a review of traffic assignments techniques currently in use, or likely to be in the near future, in Europe and elsewhere. Techniques used in large scale strategic studies and those used for the appraisal of traffic management schemes are covered extensively; dynamic assignment models are also considered. Both equilibrium and stochastic models are discussed at length. Many techniques are illustrated with numerical examples and or presented in forms suitable for programming. The emphasis is on the natures of and assumptions underlying assignment techniques used in practice; mathematical content is minimized; references to the derivations of underlying theories are given.
