Publisher's Synopsis
This book is a collection of papers based on a conference held in July 1991, the aim of which was to provide a forum to discuss examples of existing relationships between professional researchers and trade unions in a number of countries and to bring together researchers and trade unionists to explore the theoretical and practical problems experienced by ?both sides?. The contents of the book reflect the variety of research experiences discussed at the conference. The first half contains chapters which explore, theoretically, the nature of research within a collaborative framework. In the second half, lay trade unionists and researchers all use concrete examples to discuss either their experience of working collaboratively, or to review the links between both sides in specific areas.
