Publisher's Synopsis
Toward the Formation Of The Republic of Türkiye is the fourth book in the Series. Although the original is in Turkish, it has now been translated into English to reach a wider English-speaking audience. It also targets the second and later generation of English-speaking Turks who have been away from the country but desire to learn how Türkiye was formed in the early 1920s. The book covers the period of 1921 and a part of 1922. It explains the formation and deliberations of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, the various wars for independence, how the present-day borders were established, the elimination of extreme right and extreme left, particularly of communism, and how Mustafa Kemal Pasa (Atatürk) moved toward his ideal of forming a republic in Türkiye. The book also explains the end of the Ottoman Sultanate by just retaining the Assembly-appointed caliph.
