In the last three decades, the tourism industry has been plagued by acts of crime and violence intentionally conducted against innocent tourists travelling for leisure. Crimes including murder, theft, drug abuse, prostitution, terrorism and war have been found to be associated with tourist development in many destinations. Even in tourist destinations where objective evidence does not show a relationship between tourism development and the development of crime, many residents believe that tourism induces crimes of all sorts.;This study analyzes the relationship between tourist development and crime and international security issues.
