Publisher's Synopsis

Translated by Joshua Beckman and the author Volume 16 in the 'Visible Poets' translation series (parallel text)

[Tomaz Saluman is] " a poet whom one feels has a heart so open and an ear so pure, he might have answers in even the darkest times." Jorie Graham, Morris Grey Lecture, Harvard, March 2003

Tomaz Salumun is perhaps the most popular and prolific poet in Central europe today. Born in Zagreb, Croatia, he was an art historian and conceptual artist before turning to poetry. For some years he was the Slovenian cultural attache in New York, but now lives Ljubliana, travelling frequently throughout the world giving poetry readings.

Row! is Salumun's second book to be published in the UK, but unlike his first - Homage to Hat and Uncle Guido and Eliot (Arc 1986), an English edition of a collection first published in the USA - this is a new collection, receiving its first publication by Arc.

Salumun's poetry has always been very highly regarded in the USA and is now becoming increasingly well-known and well-received in Britain.
