Publisher's Synopsis
This book is an anthology of reflections and commentaries about various feasts within the Catholic Church's liturgical year according to the General Roman Calendar of 1954. The purpose of this book, which is the first of approximately four to six volumes, is a mall effort to contribute to the enhancement of a Catholic's love of the Holy Faith and how to live it during this time of apostasy, betrayal, paganism and rank unbelief.Although the reflections contained herein are not meant to replace such definitive works as Dom Prosper Gueranger's The Liturgical Year or Father Benedict Baur's The Light of the World, they are meant to popularize the works of such spiritual masters and to provide access to the insights and commentary of such authors as Fathers Frederick William Faber, Maurice Meschler, Edward Leen and, among others, Archbishop Alban Goodier. The works of numerous saints, including those of Saints Alphonsus de Liguori and Louis de Montfort, are also cited frequently. My reflections on Holy Mother Church's liturgical year and some of her feast days are thus meant to enhance and enrich the spiritual life of Catholics. Those who are familiar with my writing know that I consider repetition to be the mother of learning, and there is much repetition of themes and even of sources throughout these pages. Such repetition reflects the fact that the commentaries and reflections were written at different times and were revised over the years with an understanding that readers may not read-or remember-everything that author has read, something that holds true even within the context of an anthology such as this one. This first volume of To Live in Light of Eternity includes commentaries and reflections that span the beginning of the liturgical year, Advent, through April 5, the Feast of Saint Vincent Ferrer, O.P. Reflections on Septuagesima, Lent, Passiontide, Holy Week, Paschaltide and the movable feasts that follow (the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Pentecost Sunday, the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) will comprise the entirety of volume two.
