Publisher's Synopsis
This is volume 1 of a 4 volume series Thoughts along the way written for my children, grand-children, and great grandchildren. Perhaps others such as former students and colleagues may find it worth reading. My own process of becoming a preacher as well as Insights and observations about preaching are given including biblical, theological, and contextual perspectives. I have set forth what I consider essentials of good preaching. Included are some of my sermons over a lifetime. The reader may assess whether any of those have met the criteria. I have included as an appendix what I consider a model sermon by the Reverend Susie Beil. There is also a selective chronology, a list of churches to which I have belonged and a list of sermons preached with date and locations, when known, given. This is not so grand as a memoir nor so intimate and revealing as an autobiography but it does include personal experiences expressive of my involvement in the process of becoming a preacher.
