Publisher's Synopsis
David was not the most confident or bravest of eleven-year-olds, unlike his younger, very self-assured and single-minded sister, Rebecca.
One stormy night, whilst staying at their parent's country cottage, the children saw a mysterious light outside their bedroom window. It transported them into a strange parallel world of hedgehog-like creatures known as Gippings.
The Gippings had brought them to their world to ask them to help retrieve their sacred and powerful Golden Rod, which together with a silver rod kept their two parallel worlds apart. However, the golden rod had now been stolen, weakening this power and the two worlds had begun to merge, leading to disastrous consequences. The reason they needed David (they hadn't bargained for Rebecca as well) was that the rod had been found by a girl from the human world. Gippings cannot cross into the human world which is why they need the help of David
David, with the insistent Rebecca (and ragdoll) in tow, reluctantly accepted the mission and set off with three Gippings to locate the Rod. On their journey, they encounter many fascinating and often dangerous creatures. David's newly found courage and determination, along with a little magic and help from the Gippings, gets them all out of some rather sticky situations.
