Publisher's Synopsis

Theodore Roosevelt made the decision to embark on the most perilous adventure remaining on earth after failing to win the presidency of the United States as a third party candidate. He agreed to Candido Mariano da Silva Rondon's request to assist him in determining the River of Doubt's route together with his son Kermit. The River of Death may have been called the River of Doubt just as readily. Murphy was their steady companion during the whole expedition, which was plagued by cannibalistic tribes and far more terrible river rapids than anticipated. The expedition misplaced boats, supplies, and personnel. A flesh-eating infection caused Roosevelt to become ill at one point, and he begged his son to leave him behind to perish.
