In Through Grace and Mercy, I Made It Out against All Odds, the author tells a powerful story about a young boy name Roy growing up in poverty and trying to be a man. Roy had a lot of obstacles in his life that nearly railroaded his future. There was always something standing in the way of Roy making good sound decisions and for that every time he took one step, he found himself five steps backwards. Being from a broken home, majority of the time, Roy found himself learning as he went. His mother did the best she could do being a single mom, but as a young black male without a father figure, that wasn't enough. As you read through the story, you will see Roy had many trials and tribulations that he had to overcome. Through the eyes of Roy, you will see that a lot of his problems stemmed from not having his father in his life, and he was having a serious identity crisis. In the end, you will see that although Roy grew up in a single-parent home, his mother was a true believer in God and always told her children to believe and trust in God for guidance.
