The writer of Psalm 42 uses the vivid imagery of a thirsty deer panting for the waters of a cool, flowing stream to describe the way that his soul longed for God. The focus of your devotional time should be God and His word. To get the most out of your devotional time, you need to open your Bible and spend time in prayer. As you go through this study of James, remember that the book of James was originally written as a letter and did not have the chapter and verse divisions that it now has. It also didn't have headings and wasn't neatly sectioned off. Each thought was tied to the one before it and the one after it, so it all flowed together. You'll find at the end of each week there is a review day where you can reflect on the past week of devotions and think about how each verse ties together in the letter.
